Set up RagChat on your Shopify store
This guide takes you from a fresh install to a live AI assistant on your storefront. It usually takes under ten minutes.
After installing RagChat, open the app. The Home page shows a setup guide called Set up your AI assistant with four steps. Here is what each one means.
1. Customize your widget
Go to Settings → Widget and make the chat match your brand: accent color, position, corner radius, welcome message, and suggested questions. A live preview updates as you go. Details in Customize the chat widget.
2. Train your AI
Your products, policies, and collections are learned automatically, so the AI is useful from day one. Go to Knowledge base to add more: your own pages, files, and Q&A answers. Details in Train the AI with your knowledge base.
3. Customize and test your AI
Go to Settings → AI to name your assistant, pick a tone of voice, and choose what it can do (offer discounts, look up orders, collect leads). Then scroll to the Playground and chat with it yourself before any shopper does. Details in Configure your AI assistant.
4. Activate your widget
The widget only appears on your storefront after you enable the RagChat app embed in your theme:
- On the Home page, find the Activate your chat widget card and click Activate widget. This opens your Shopify theme editor with the RagChat embed selected.
- In the theme editor, turn the embed on and click Save.
- Back in RagChat, click Re-check on the card. It should now say Your chat widget is live with an Active badge.
Visit your storefront and you should see the chat launcher in the corner. If not, see Chat widget not appearing on my store.
You can tick off steps in the setup guide as you complete them, and dismiss the guide once you are done.
