Shopify discounts are applied to my add-on prices
You created a Shopify discount (for example, a storewide sale) and noticed it also reduces your add-on prices. This article explains why that happens and what you can do about it.
Why this happens
Optionize attaches add-ons to the main product as a bundle. The product and its selected add-ons reach checkout as one combined line that unfolds into separate line items (see How add-ons appear in the cart and at checkout).
When a Shopify discount applies to that product, Shopify calculates the discount on the bundle as a whole (the main product plus its add-ons) and spreads it across all of the items inside. That is why your add-on prices are reduced too.
This is native Shopify bundle behavior. Shopify does not offer a way to exempt part of a bundle from a discount, so Optionize cannot currently protect add-on prices from it.
What you can do
Exclude those products from the discount
If the add-ons on certain products must never be discounted, keep those products out of the discount entirely:
- In your Shopify admin, go to Discounts and open the discount.
- Under Applies to, change All products to Specific collections or Specific products.
- Leave out the products whose add-on prices should stay at full price.
Keep in mind this excludes the main product from the sale as well. Shopify cannot discount a product while sparing its add-ons.
Adjust add-on prices during promotions
Alternatively, factor the sale into your add-on pricing. For example, if a promotion gives 20% off, raise the affected add-on prices so the discounted amount lands where you want it. You can change all add-on prices at once with the bulk price adjustment tool, then revert them after the sale; see Bulk edit option sets and adjust prices.
