Set up Optionize on your store

Get Optionize running on your storefront in four steps. When you finish, your custom options will show on your product pages and flow through to orders.

Step 1: Create your first option set

  1. In the app, go to Option sets and click Create option set.
  2. Add your options, assign products, and save.

Step 2: Enable the app embed (required)

Options will not appear on your storefront until the app embed is on.

  1. On the app's home page, click Enable app embed in the setup guide. This opens your theme editor with the embed ready to activate.
  2. Turn on the Optionize embed and click Save.

You can also do this manually: in Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes → Customize, open the App embeds panel, and turn on Optionize.

Step 3: Add the app block (optional)

By default, options are inserted into your product page automatically. If they show up in the wrong spot (for example, at the bottom of the page), add the app block to control the placement:

  1. In the theme editor, open a product page template.
  2. Click Add block in the section where you want the options to appear.
  3. Choose the Options block from Optionize and save.

Step 4: Place a test order

Before going live, test the full flow:

  1. Open a product that has your option set assigned.
  2. Fill in the options and add the product to the cart.
  3. Check that your selections appear on the cart page, then complete a test checkout.
  4. Open the order in Shopify admin and confirm the selected options are attached to the line item.
