Link add-on products to option values

Features · Updated Jul 15, 2026

Product linking connects an option value to a real product in your store. When the customer selects that value, the linked product is added to the cart alongside the main product. This feature is available on the Pro plan.

Use it for upsells that are actual products, such as a matching chain for a pendant, a warranty product, or batteries.

Link a product to a value

  1. Open your option set and select a choice option.
  2. Select the option value.
  3. Click the link icon next to the value's Add-on price field and pick the product to link. The price field then shows the linked product's own price and variant.
  4. Save the option set.

How it works at checkout

When the customer selects the value and adds the main product to the cart, the linked product is added too, priced at its own product price. At checkout both appear as separate line items, so inventory for the linked product is tracked normally.

Add-on price vs. product linking

Add-on price Product linking
What it is A flat surcharge on a value A real product added to the cart
Inventory tracked No Yes, the linked product's own stock
Price comes from The amount you type on the value The linked product's price

Use add-on price for services and fees (engraving, rush order). Use product linking when the extra is a physical product you stock.

Things to know

  • If a linked product is out of stock, you can grey it out on the storefront automatically. In Settings, turn on Disable unavailable options.
  • Customers can't buy Optionize's auto-created add-on products on their own; see Can customers buy add-on products directly?.
