PageSpeed or Lighthouse flags WiseReviews CSS or JS
PageSpeed Insights or Lighthouse may flag WiseReviews App embed CSS or JS (for example extension-style.css) as render-blocking on product pages. With the current design, that is expected. Reviews still need the App embed. This page explains what you can do and what to leave alone.
Keep the App embed Active
The WiseReviews App embed must stay Active on your published theme for reviews to work.
Product template blocks alone are not enough when the embed is required. If you turn the embed off, widgets typically stop loading even when Product Reviews or Star Rating blocks are still on the template.
To check or turn it on:
- In WiseReviews, go to Settings → Other settings → Install review widgets → Open widget installer.
- Under App embed, confirm the badge is Active. If it is not, click Enable app embed, then Save in the theme editor.
Full install steps: Install the review widgets on your store.
Why PageSpeed flags the App embed
When the App embed is Active, WiseReviews loads its storefront CSS and JS so widgets can render. Tools like PageSpeed Insights and Lighthouse often list those files as render-blocking. That matches how the embed works today. It is not a sign that install is broken.
What you can do
Supported options:
- Keep the App embed Active and finish normal widget install (blocks or page-builder snippets as needed).
- Turn on Lazy load reviews if you want review content to load later on the page. Go to Settings → Review widgets settings → General, enable Lazy load reviews, then Save. This helps content fetch timing. It does not remove App embed CSS or JS from the critical path.

What not to do
Do not manually defer, async-hack, or remove WiseReviews App embed assets in your theme code. Those changes are unsupported and can break widgets or leave the storefront in a state Support cannot safely fix for you.
Will this load path change?
There is no planned change to how App embed CSS and JS load right now. Use the supported install path and Lazy load reviews when it helps. Message us from the chat widget if something looks wrong on your live store after a normal install.
