Translate reviews

Imported reviews often arrive in another language. Translate them in bulk so they read naturally in your store's language. WiseReviews saves each review's original wording, so you can bring it back later.

Translate a batch of reviews

1. In WiseReviews, go to Reviews and select the reviews you want to translate. Use filters first (for example by Source) to narrow the list.
2. Click the ... button at the end of the action bar, then click Translate reviews.
3. Read the warning at the top of the window. It says: "Translating replaces each review's title and text on your store. The original wording is saved, and you can bring it back anytime with "Restore original text". Each review uses 1 credit, including reviews you translate again."
4. Pick the target language in the Language dropdown. You can choose any language, so translate into whatever your storefront uses.
5. Check your remaining credits at the bottom of the window, then click Translate.

Translation runs in the background. While it runs you'll see "Your reviews are currently being translated. Please wait until the process is complete."

What gets translated:

• The review title and body are translated together, for one credit per review. A review with no title keeps an empty title.
• The translation replaces the title and body shown in the app and on your storefront. The original stays saved in WiseReviews.
• If you translate a review again, for example into another language, WiseReviews translates from the saved original, not from the earlier translation.
• The reviewer name isn't translated.

Restore the original text

1. On the Reviews page, select the translated reviews.
2. Click the ... button at the end of the action bar, then click Restore original text.
3. A window titled Restore original text? opens. It says: "Each selected review gets its original title and text back. Any edits you made after translating will be lost."
4. Click Restore. To keep the reviews as they are, click Cancel.

The original title and body come back right away. A message tells you how many reviews were restored, and how many had no saved original.

• Restoring doesn't use credits, and it doesn't give back the credits the translation used.
• After a restore, the saved copy is cleared. Translating that review again saves its wording as the original once more.
• If you edited a translated review with Edit, restoring brings back the original wording from before the translation and drops your edits.
• Reviews with no saved original are left as they are.

Reviews translated before this update

Reviews translated before this update (released October 14, 2026) have no saved original, so Restore original text can't bring their wording back. If you translate one of them again, the text it shows at that point (the earlier translation) is what gets saved as its original.

The same applies to reviews translated with Choose language in the Edit form before that form started saving originals, later the same day.

Translate one review in the review form

If Create review and Edit are unlocked for your shop, the review form has a Choose language button. Each translation there uses one credit and translates the title and text together.

When you edit a review:

• Choose language translates the review and saves it right away. You don't need to click Save.
• WiseReviews saves the original wording, the same as Translate reviews, so Restore original text can bring it back.
• If you changed the title or text and haven't saved yet, Choose language is greyed out with the hint "Save your changes before translating." Click Save first, then open the review again.

When you create a review:

• Choose language translates the title and text you've typed so far. Nothing is saved until you click Save.
• The review doesn't exist yet, so no original is kept, and Restore original text can't bring back what you typed before translating.

Translation credits

Each translated review uses one credit, however long it is. Credits per calendar month by plan: 10 on Free, 100 on Standard, and 1,000 on Plus. See Plans and pricing.

Good to know:

• Translating a review again, for example into another language, uses another credit.
• Used credits aren't given back, including when you restore the original text. Unused credits don't carry over. All credits reset at the start of each calendar month (00:00 UTC on the 1st).
• Reviews with an empty body are skipped and don't use any credits.
• If a batch is larger than your remaining credits, only that many reviews are translated.
• Translation changes the reviews in your store only. There's no option to show shoppers a different language version of the same review.
